Fifth Act Church Planting is an affiliate organization of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren that seeks to initiate and support gospel-centered mission through launching new Lutheran Brethren churches in urban areas and beyond. Our former pastor (Rev. Andrew Foss) is a founding board member, and Hope Community is excited to financially support this new initiative because of a deep rooted passion to see the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ spread throughout the world. We believe one of the primary ways God has chosen to do this is through planting churches in global cities.
If there’s one person who understood the need to plant churches, it was the Apostle Paul. He was uniquely interested, however, in planting churches in areas that would affect the wider Jewish and Greco-Roman worlds. That’s why he chose the New Yorks, Los Angeles’, and Chicagos of his day: Philippi, Athens and Rome. The Apostle Paul knew that exposing these cities, and the people they housed, could change the world. And we know that’s just what happened! Cities are places where the culture of the entire world is formed. If you can imagine a world changed with the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, then cities must be at the forefront. Furthermore, the rapid rate of people moving into cities is unmatched in human history. So the question is -- will the church be prepared to meet them when they arrive?
